Answers to Questions About GRVP

Q: I’m not a Georgetown undergraduate student and I would like to learn more about studies run by university researchers. How do I sign myself up, or sign my child or children up?

  • You can sign up for yourself and/or your children through Research Match
  • Press the green Sign Up Now link
  • Answer 6 questions about basic demographic information (such as your gender and date of birth).

The total registration process should take approximately 5 minutes. After you sign up, you will receive occasional emails from Research Match informing you about studies in which you may be qualified to participate.  You can choose to participate or not participate in any of these studies.  Most of these studies will offer to provide you with payment in exchange for participating.

During the signup process, you will also be able to indicate whether you are only interested in participating in studies in the Washington, DC, area or whether you would be interested in studies taking place further away.

Q:  I’m a Georgetown undergraduate student. How do I participate in research at Georgetown?

A:  Georgetown undergraduate students can participate in research through SONA. Sign up for SONA

  • Click New Participant on the bottom left of the page
  • Create your account
  • Then sign up to participate in studies for SONA credit or pay

Q:  How do I sign up for SONA studies?

A:  Once you create a SONA account you can click on available studies and sign up for specific time slots to participate in a study. The researcher will then assign you SONA credits.

Q:  How do I know if I can receive SONA credit?

A:  Each semester many psychology professors offer extra credit (amount at the Professor’s discretion) for participation in psychology research at Georgetown. If your professor is participating in SONA this semester, you will receive one SONA credit per one hour of study participation (which can be rounded to the half credit).

Q:  My professor is offering SONA credit this semester. How many SONA credits do I need?

A:  The number of SONA credits needed varies by professor. Please check with your professor.

Q: I already signed up for SONA last semester. Do I need to sign up again?

A:  Yes you need to create a SONA login at the beginning of each semester, which you can use for the rest of the semester.

Q:  I am not enrolled in a class offering SONA credit. Can I still participate?

A:  Absolutely! If you are enrolled in a psychology class that is not offering SONA credit or if you are not taking a psychology class, you can participate in SONA for pay. Choose Not Listed as the class course and read the study description to ensure that an option for pay is listed.

Q:  I’m a Georgetown University researcher. How do I join GRVP and use its services?

A:  Please contact GRVP directly at grvp@georgetown.edu. We will be happy to explain our services!
